Policy

The Gambia Environmental Action Plan (GEAP) provides the benchmark for the formulation of general environmental policies in The Gambia; environmental regulations and/or legislations on the other hand are provided for the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) of 1994. Both the GEAP and NEMA are under the purview of the NEA. There are also other environment sector policies and laws formulated and executed by other Government Departments involved in natural resource management.

The other level of environmental legislation is the Multilateral Environment Regulations that include international Conventions and Protocols to which The Gambia is party to. Summaries of the NEMA and GEAP together key environmental regulations and standards are provided in links below; details thereto can be obtained from institutions identified with each.
