The youth of Foni Kansala District, on Sunday embarked on weeding their 2.5-hectare bean farm, located in Bwiam village in the West Coast Region. Speaking to the Daily Observer at the farm, the Foni Kansala youth coordinator, Modou Lamin Nyassi highlighted the importance of the exercise, saying they cultivated beans in order to diversify production.
He said as young people they are determined to contribute their quota to the attainment of food self-sufficiency in The Gambia. Nyassi reaffirmed their support for the re-election of President Jammeh come the 24th November Presidential Election.
For his part, Pa Ebrima Demba, said the farm is dedicated to President Jammeh, and that the proceeds generated from His Excellency’s farms go back to Gambians.
He however expressed the need to have seeders and shine hoes in order to maximise production. Demba then commended the youth of Foni Kansala for their unity, cooperation and dedication.
Ansumana Bambo Jammeh also urged the people of Foni to go back to the land, saying that agriculture is the answer to poverty. He advised the youths of Foni Kansala to continue rallying behind President Jammeh and the APRC, while expressing optimism for a bumper harvest.
